When Sara deBeer puts together a program of Arthurian legends for a particular audience, she combines her love of Celtic mythology and her fascination with the legends of King Arthur with the understanding she has of what type of stories are appropriate for a particular group of listeners.
For younger listeners, she shares the tale of King Arthur sneaking out of his castle to joust with a strange knight and tell how this adventure led him to win the sword Excaliber from the Lady of the Lake. Listeners will then hear traditional tales of quests from other lands, including a Spanish folktale of a girl who rescued her brothers.
For older listeners, Sara tells Arthurian legends based on Le Morte D'Arthur by Thomas Malory. This program celebrates both the language and the rich tapestry of events included in this renowned epic.
